Auto Dismantler Tips for Changing a Tire

There is never a “convenient” time to experience a flat tire. Whether traveling for business or pleasure, the telltale thumping or tire pressure light represents a dreaded moment for drivers everywhere.

Although roadside assistance services are a valuable resource for drivers, individuals must often wait for several minutes – or even hours – to wait for a technician to arrive. For many drivers, the expediency and self-sufficiency of changing one’s own tire is preferable to waiting for someone else to help.

Those who find themselves stranded can take the following steps to change a flat tire quickly and easily:

1. Pull over promptly and safely.
2. Turn on hazard lights.
3. Loosen tire lug nuts using a wrench.
4. Using a jack, lift the vehicle until the tire is about six inches above the road.
5. Remove the lug nuts and detach the tire.
6. Lining up the holes in the spare with the lug nut posts, attach the spare tire to the wheel base.
7. Lightly, not too tightly, screw on the lug nuts.
8. Lower the vehicle to the ground and pull out the jack.
9. Tighten the lug nuts gradually, moving from one lug nut to the opposite until all are tight.
10. Place the flat tire and tools back inside the trunk, leaving nothing on or near the road.

After you have changed your flat tire, don’t forget to recycle it at your local salvage yard.
